Democratic presidential nominee Gov. Jimmy Carter and President Ford participated in a televised debate. While standing at separate podia, the two candidates responded to questions on domestic issues and economic policy from a panel of journalists. The debate took place before a live audience in the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia, and ended abruptly after the loss of pool audio from the debate. The two candidates continued to stand at their podia as correspondents interviewed campaign officials and discussed the progress of the debate.
